The University of NSW, alma mater of many ophthalmologists and optometrists, is to become fully solar powered, having just signed a 15-year solar purchase agreement agreement with solar company Maoneng Australia and energy company Origin.

The agreement will see solar energy from Maoneng’s under-construction Sunraysia (near Balranald, NSW) solar farm provide all the energy for the UNSW campus at Kensington, a Sydney’s south-eastern suburb.

Sunraysia will be the largest solar farm in Australia, generating at leastm 530,000 megawatt hours of electricity annually. UNSW will buy 124,000 megawatt hours.
